The new eGeeTouch Smart Luggage Lock from Digi-Pas USA seems a touch too easy to be true, but here we have it. The lock requires no key, no digit wheels, and no code memorization to open–only the touch of a paired-at-purchase smart tag, a tag sticker placed on an item you carry often, or the user's own smart device. "It's a great option with the elderly, who may struggle with digit wheels or easily forget codes," said one Digi-Pas representative.

The device works through Near Field Communication, or NFC, which provides increased security against hacking or remote unlocking. In fact eGeeTouch claims the devices are as secure as mobile payment methods. The locks require minimal power and can be turned on an off anywhere between 5,500 and 11,000 times over 3 years of battery life before replacement is needed.

Should anything go wrong–you lost your phone, the battery runs out, or you can't find your tag–the customized suitcases will come with a back-up key to manually unlock the device. Just as long as you don't lose that too.

Though not in commercial production yet, Digi-pas USA, LLC may soon be pairing with existing luggage companies to produce custom luggage with smart lock options. They'll be available in multiple colors and models to suit different styles.

For the frequent traveller, the one who carries valuables, or the one who can never remember that code they set on their lock (Was it your grandma's birthday?) this device may be the key to traveling successfully.
